Wrexham

A great honour to have work selected for the National Eisteddfod on Wales. I was pleased that the judges elected to display the all the key pieces of Meditations on Mortaria as they were designed as a set, contemplating the essential elements of a mortar and pestle.
I worked with both porcelain and terra cotta, pressing in a variety of materials to reflect the grinding surfaces of both the mortars and the pestles – from shale to impressed grains.
The thin porcelain allows light to shine through the rice and barley grains. Copper wire adds an unusual element.
